CTLI Academy for Teaching

The MSU Academy for Teaching, is an online educator development program designed to equip MSU instructors with evidence-based pedagogical practices that support effective teaching and student success at scale.

The academy offers:

• A dedicated Welcome to Teaching module designed for those new to MSU, or new to the practice of teaching covering university policies, compliance, syllabus standards, classroom management, and student support resources.
• Multiple pathways including Course Design, Engaging Practices, Inclusive Pedagogy, Assessment, Educational Technology, and Generative AI.
• Self-paced, asynchronous modules designed to build core instructional competencies across all career stages.
• Digital credentials that document instructional development and teaching expertise.
• Opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues committed to advancing teaching excellence across the university. 

Participants may choose their own learning journey based on their individual interests, goals, prior knowledge, and learning needs. They are encouraged to explore the topics in an order that is most meaningful and relevant to them.

The sequence below provides a recommended learning pathway that reflects a purposeful progression of topics. It is designed to help participants build foundational knowledge first, then progressively develop the skills, confidence, and practical strategies needed to apply what they learn. Participants may follow the recommended sequence from beginning to end or customize their experience by selecting the topics that best align with their goals and areas of interest.

• Log in: After selecting a course, you will be asked to log in with your MSU NetID and password before self-enrolling.
• Complete the course: Each course is unique and designed to give you a deeper understanding of a specific element of teaching. While completion times will vary, on average a course will take approximately three hours to complete.
• Earn a D2L badge: Once you complete a course, you will receive a D2L badge.
• Complete the full track to earn a Credly badge: Completion of a full curriculum track will earn you Credly badge to signify the accomplishment. Credly badges can easily be shared on sites like LinkedIn and used on resumes or in emails.
