Classroom Community Specialist

Dr. Bethany Meadows (they/she) is the Classroom Community Specialist at Michigan State University's Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI). They facilitate educational development for educators on inclusive pedagogy that foster student belonging and reduce systemic barriers to learning. They are also the Conference Chair for TALKS as well as serve as Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures and with the Center for Gender in Global Context.

They have extensive experience across K–12, community college, and university settings where they have taught a wide range of courses and served as Assistant Director of two Writing Centers. Their contributions to the profession have been recognized with several institutional honors, including the 2026 MSU Employee Advocate of the Year Award, the 2025 and 2021 #iTeachMSU Educator Awards, and the 2021 Spartan Volunteer Service Award. Their scholarship has recently appeared in MLA Profession, The Journal of Multimodal Rhetorics, and other publications.

They hold a Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric with a graduate specialization in Women's and Gender Studies from Michigan State University, an M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition from Ball State University, and dual bachelor's degrees in English and Integrated Language Arts Education from Ashland University.
